The Floating Rib reads annually. We are currently open for submissions for Issue One.
We accept work for two purposes: our annual journal, which publishes poetry, lyric essay, flash fiction, and hybrid forms; and occasional press publications, which are complete book-length works we believe in enough to put our name on. If you have a complete manuscript you feel belongs here, tell us.
We accept poetry, lyric essay, flash fiction, and hybrid forms — including work that does not fit neatly into any of these categories. If you are unsure whether your work belongs here, that uncertainty is probably a good sign.
Work that is alive in the body.
Work that locates strangeness where it already lives.
Work that accumulates rather than explains.
We are drawn to the involuntary, the unresolved, the sentence that moves differently. We welcome forms that don't have names yet.
We do not ask how work was made. We ask only whether it is alive.
